Workshop | Hand Building Ceramics - Slab Building Techniques

Hand building with clay offers a myriad of possibilities for creating functional and decorative ceramic objects, and is a great alternative to working with the pottery wheel. In this one day workshop you will learn slab building techniques to make a serving platter and matching bowl.
What to expect:
- watch demonstrations by your tutor who will show you step by step what to do
- learn how to prepare your clay (wedging)
- learn how to prepare and roll out your slabs and joining techniques
- learn how to use moulds to build your slab object,
- be introduced to a range of basic hand surface decorating techniques (for example sgraffito, rolled decoration, slips)
- prepare your object for firing
Materials
- Clay is included in the workshop fee.
- You will be able to use our clay tools during the workshop, or you if you already have a set bring what you have.
- 1 or 2 objects (size dependent) will be bisque fired. You can also choose your colour for glaze firing, also included in the workshop fee). Extra items can be fired for an additional fee.
All students should bring:
- Some images of ceramics that inspire you
- an apron
- a notebook to take notes and sketch your ideas
- a light lunch

Our class sizes are small, ensuring you receive the individual tuition you need.
Unless otherwise noted, clay is supplied for ceramic workshops and this is included in your fees, however there may be other items to bring, so please review course description carefully.
