Part 1: 6 hours 
10am — 4pm Saturday 4 January 2025 

Create a stunning flower-based sculpture in this 2-part workshop. During Part 1 of this workshop you will learn techniques for making proteas, banksias or other flowers that interest to you.  

You will make a single, self-supporting table sculpture to be bisque fired ready for colour and glaze two weeks later during Part 2 of the workshop. With her incredible experience Lisa will help you realise your ideas. There is a scheduled half hour for lunch around 1pm. 

Part 2: 2.5 hours 
6.30pm — 9pm Friday 17 January 2025 

In this second workshop, Lisa will guide you through under-glazing and over-glazing techniques and colour ideas to suit your own particular sculpture, ready for the final glaze firing. 

What to expect

During this workshop you will: 

  • Create a beautiful flower sculpture 
  • Design, plan and make the base, leaf and flower of your sculpture 
  • Extend hand building techniques  
  • Learn professional tips and tricks 
  • Learn sculptural and texture techniques 
  • Learn to use underglaze colours  
  • Learn and deepen your knowledge of ceramics-making processes and how to ensure your work is successful

Is this course right for me?

This is a class for all levels.  No prior experience required.

Material list

We will provide some materials: clay (Keane’s White Rake) and basic (Chrysanthos) underglaze colours. Works will be bisque fired after Part 1 of the workshop ready for underglazing and over-glaze during Part 2 of the workshop. 

This workshop includes a limited number of underglaze colours. If you would like to use specialty glazes and underglazes — you are welcome to do so under Lisa’s direction. They are available at local suppliers and online for purchase, Lisa will help you locate them. 

What materials do I need to bring? 

  • Inspirational reference materials — images or from your garden 
  • You are also welcome to bring drinks, lunch or snacks. We’ll supply the glasses.

Will my work be fired?

Standard works made as part of your course program will be bisque fired and glaze fired as part of your course fee. Works made outside of the Art Est. studio cannot be fired in our kilns. The works will be ready for pick up 1 — 2 weeks after Part 2 of the workshop.
