Making Indonesian Jajan Pasar (Street Vendor Snacks)

Come and join us making Indonesian Jajan Pasar. In this class, Jayanto will guide you to make your dream street vendor snacks that are inspired by his motherland’s culture, and the foods that evoke memories. Be inspired by the rich colours, cultures, textures, shapes and designs of real or imaginary snacks and a knowledge about street vendor food, and create a life-size delicious clay sculpture. Explore the materiality of clay and have fun experimenting in this workshop for all ages and levels of experience.

What to expect

In this workshop, you will begin with sketching your ideas from a holiday photo or memory. Jayanto will help you navigate the design and hand-building possibilities and limitations. You will learn hand-building skills and tips and tricks to make your dream snacks.

You will explore surface decoration techniques including underglazing and texture.

What will you achieve?

During this workshop you will:
•    Create a street vendor snacks-inspired sculpture for wall or free-standing
•    Learn the essential hand-building and mould techniques
•    Learn professional tips and tricks
•    Learn underglazing and surface texture technique

Is this class right for me?

This small class is suitable for all levels. Families welcome, though children must be at least 6 years old to participate. 

What should I bring?

Please bring your stories, holiday photos, memory objects and a small plate to share during the half-hour break (snack, fruit, cake, etc.)
